According to Hana Shaf-Brener, Chaya Zelikovich, daughter of Yehuda Leib and Chana, lived in Shkud, later moving to Darbenai. She lived with the daughters of her sister, Taibele, 23; and Itale, 25. Presumably the mother of the sisters had died previously.

Avigdor and Moshe Zelikovich were unmarried brothers. They lived in Shkud, but moved to (or visited) Libau (present-day Liepaja, Latvia), where they were killed. Edward Anders, in his book Jews in Liepaja, Latvia, 1941-45 (Anders Press, Burlingame, CA, 2001, p. 197), records that Moses Zelikavichin, born in Skuodas in 1897, was killed in July 1941 in Liepaja. His address previous to 1941 was Julianes 26-7.

According to Jewish Gen’s Lithuania Tax and Voters Lists database, the Zelikovich family was already estabished in Shkud by 1846. Avigder Zelikovich, son of Bentsel, is recorded in 1915; the comment beside his name is “Telsiai District Draft Age Certificate,” so if he is the Avigdor in the chart above, he would have been born in about 1898.

According to Kehilat Shkud, “about five farmers cultivated their own their lands in Shkud, produced enough for private consumption and sold the surplus to the shtetl dwellers. Owners of large plots were: Neta Zelikovitz z”l, Bere Kaganzon and Joseph Mirkis – in the old town, and the brothers Mendel and Nachum Chatzkels, Hirsch Cohen and David Shafkind – in the New Town” (14). Neta had been married to Sarah (nee Eliash). They had a son, Leib. After Neta’s death, Sarah married Yitzak Malkinson. For more information on Leib Zelikovich and the Malkinson family, see the Malkinson family pages.

Chaya Zelikovich, who raised her sister’s two daughters, appears to have been Neta Zelikovich’s sister. The Lithuania Marriages database record of Neta’s 1930 marriage to Sarah Eliash tells us that Yosel Zelikovich, a farmer, was, like Chaya, the son of Yudel Leib.

Jewish Gen’s Yizkor Book Necrology database lists Avidgor and Aria Selikovich as having been murdered in Shkud.
