According to Hana Shaf-Brener, three Tov families lived in Shkud.

Sarah Tov, “The Old Lady,” probably a widow, was 80 years old.

Chaya Tov, a widow, was visiting Vilne at the outbreak of war and was imprisoned (and presumably killed) in the Vilne ghetto.

Chaya had been married to Asrael. They had a married son, Leib, who worked in a fabric store. Leib was married to Sarah Dvora, and the couple had a two-year-old son, Shmuel Yitzak, and an infant daughter, Feiga Rivka. Chaya and Asrael’s younger son, Hirsh, was a student in the “Ort” trade school.

Bendet Tov, the son of Hirsh Mayer and Sheyna, worked in a fabric store (presumably the family business in which Leib also worked). Bendet was married to Paulina, and the couple had an adult daughter, Miriam, a hatmaker.

According to Jewish Gen’s Lithuania Tax and Voters Lists database, the Tov family was already established in Shkud by 1846. The Lithuania Deaths database indicates that Sheyna Tov, the mother of Bendet and Mere (nee Yudelman), died in 1925, aged 85. Bendet Tov’s sister Mere, born in 1871, died in 1939 of pneumonia. (Note: The Lithuania Marriages database indicates that Mere Tov, who married Itsik Eliyash, was the mother of Sarah Eliyash/Zelikovich/Malkinson: for information on Sarah, see http://shtetlshkud.com/index.php/families-2/malkinson/sarah-malkinson.)

Jewish Gen’s Lithuania Marriages database indicates that Bendet and Paulina (nee Fisher) Tov had a second daughter, Freide Libe, born in 1912. Freide Liba married Markus Fogelman in 1936. The same data base indicates that Asrael and Chaya (nee Rabinovich) Tov had a second son, Yudel Yerukhim, a shopkeeper, who married Dvora Sore Alpern in 1938.

Jewish Gen’s Lithuania Internal Passports database indicates that Leyzer Hirsh Tov, son of Beine [Bendet?], born in 1921, emigrated to South Africa in 1938. The Necrology database lists both Bendet and Asrael Tov, though according to Shaf-Brener’s chart above, Asrael, the husband of Chaya, died before the Holocaust.
