According to Hana Shaf-Brener, several Taits families lived in Shkud.

Yehuda Taits, a peddler, was married to Chaya. The couple had a married son, Yosef, an accountant; another son, Aharon, a shoemaker; and a daughter, Masha.

Avraham Taits was the son of Moshe and Sarah-Dvora.

Gershon Taits, a shoemaker, widower of Rebeka (nee Blinder), had a son, Aharon, also a shoemaker, and a daughter, Pesya. (Rebeka’s death is recorded in Jewish Gen’s Lithuania Deaths database, where her surname is given as Brinder; she died in 1936, aged 37).

Another Yehuda Taits and and another Avraham Taits, together with their families, also lived in Shkud. Their relationship with the families above is unclear.

The young people of the Taits families were active in Shkud’s youth groups:

A possible mention of Masha Taits, daughter of Yehuda, appers in the article “No One is Forgotten,” by A. Straksys (Musu Zodis Nov 17,1966): “M. Taicaite [the suffix indicates an unmarried woman]… and many others, well known by the older generation of Skuodas, lay in this terrible grave [at Alka Hill, a mass murder site], shot or buried alive.”

Jewish Gen’s Lithuanian Necrology database lists four members of the Taits family: Abraham, Gershon, and Yehuda, who appears twice. Apparently, then, there were two Yehuda Taitses who were murdered in Shkud [and possibly two Avrahams? or are one or both of the doubled names in error?].

We can start to piece together the story as follows: Yehuda Taits was the uncle of Avraham Taits, probably the brother of Avraham’s father Moshe. Avraham Taits’s parents, Moshe and Sara Dveira, moved to Israel (Kehilat Shkud 27). (According to Jewish Gen’s Lithuania Marriages database, their son Meer Jankel married Sara Sheyndling in Shkud, 1934). Meir and his brother Shlomo (Kehilat Shkud 16, 20) emigrated also. Both sons filled out Yad Vashem Cards of Testimony for their family members as indicated below.
