According to Hana Shaf-Brener, there were four Reif families in Shkud.
1) Brocha, 65, widow of Akiva Leizer, had four unmarried children: Leah, 23; Tuvia, 25; Yitzak, about 29; and Eta, 21. “Jews in the Memory of Skuodas People” (see link on this page) mentions that Kive Reif had a shop on the corner of Laisves and D. Poskos Streets (25). Is this the same individual as Akiva Leizer?
2) Leib Reif, 27, son of Akiva Leizer and Brocha, was married to Rivka (nee Vainer). The couple had a daughter, Mina, 10. Jewish Gen’s Lithuania Marriages database records the 1928 marriage of Leib Reif, son of Noakh and Rive Dveire of Salantai, 22, to Rebeke Vainer, daughter of Perets and Taube, 22, in 1928. [Either Shaf-Brener or the database seems to be in error here; could there be two Leib Reifs who married Rivka/Rebeka Vainers??]
3) Rachel Riva, 74, widow of Yitzak. Jewish Gen’s Lithuania Tax and Voters Lists database lists Itsik Reif, son of Abram, and his brother Kavel Reif. Both were poor shoemakers in 1904. Jewish Gen’s Lithuania Deaths database indicates the Itsik Reif, age 63, son of Abram and Kreine, died in Shkud in 1927.
Jewish Gen’s Lithuania Internal Passports database indicates that Khaya Reif, a tailor, daughter of Itsik, born in Skuodas in 1908, applied for a foreign passport in 1931. The Lithuania Marriages database indicates the 1936 marriage of Khaya Reif, born in 1908 to Itsik and Rokhl Riva (nee Balan) of Shkud, to Shmuel Meyer Kanzon, born in 1904 to Ber and Feige Male. For more information on Chaya Reif, see here.
4) Avraham, 50, son of Yitzak and Rachel Riva, was married to Freida Mira (nee Karnazon), 40. Their children were Tsvia, about 6; Rivka, about 6; and Ita, 2.
There is a discrepancy here: Jewish Gen’s Lithuania Marriages database records the 1933 marriage of Abram Nochum Reif, born in 1898 to Itsik and Mere (nee Bod), to Freide Mere Kaganzan, born in 1908 to Ber Vulf and Malke (nee Pelts).
Avraham’s brother, Eliahu Reif, survived the war. He provided Yad Vashem with a Page of Testimony indicating that Avraham’s mother was Mere, not Rachel Riva (see below). For more information on Eliahu Reif, see here.
Jewish Gen’s Lithuania Marriages database also records the 1939 marriage of Braine Rive Reif, born in 1911 to Akivel Leizer and Rokhe (nee Griksta) of Skuodas, to Peisakh Kapel, born in 1904 to Motel and Sheine Kapel of Plunge.
Elija Reif and Ovi Reif survived the Holocaust; Jewish Gen’s Directories database indicates that they were “found in Germany” in 1946.
Jewish Gen’s Yizkor Book Necrology Database lists Abraham Raif and Bracha Raif of Skuodas.
