Jewish Gen’s Lithuania Tax and Voters List database indicates that the Rachkind family was established in Shkud in 1846. Girsh Rachkind, son of Shmerl, appears in that database as a butcher in 1914. The Lithuania Census 1897 database indicates that Girsh Rachkind, son of Shmerel, a butcher, and his wife Gite were living on Staroe Mestechko Square in Skuodas with their five children, among them Faive (Faivl?), age 5.
According to Kehilat Shkud, Hirsh Reichkind was one of the heads of the Burial Society (55), and also a treasurer: “Amongst the treasurers of the Burial Society were Aharon Bloch z”l, Leib Baskind hy”d, Yaakov Segal hy”d, Hersh Reichkind z”l, and Y. Yudelman z”l” (27).
In the document Jews in the Memory of Skuodas People (see link on this page), Faivel Rochkind is listed as a meat trader on Gedimino road 11 (19). In the same document, this brief memoir appears: “In the beginning of Laisves Street, a Jew, Rachkind, had a butchery where Jewish cattle, cows and heifers, were butchered; because if an animal was killed by someone who was not Jewish, they could not eat that meat, they considered it unclean. Chickens were also slaughtered there” (10) .
A number of Rachkinds from Skuodas appear in Jewish Gen’s Lithuania Marriages database. Zusel Rachkind, a butcher, the son of Isak and Taube, married Lese Klaf in 1925. Sore (nee Rakhkind) was married to Saul [Sanel?] Glago; their daughter Braine married Elijas Michel Mines (my father’s cousin) in 1939. Sanel Sroel and Sore (nee Rakhkind) Glago’s daughter Freide Mere married Mausha Yankelovich in 1930, and another daughter, Minde, married Bentsel Yankelovich in 1937.
