According to Hana Shaf-Brener, Yakov Melamed, a ritual slaughterer, was a widower married to Yehudit. Yakov and his first wife, Eta, had two daughters: Ester and Sheyna Masha, who lived with her husband in Jelgava, Latvia. Yakov and Yehudit had a five-year-old daughter whose name Shaf-Brener does not provide.
Kehilat Shkud tells us that Yakov was a member of the Gemara Society.

According to Jewish Gen’s Lithuania Marriages database, Yankel Melamed, son of Shimen Mausha and Rauze Gita (nee Kahn) of Skuodas, born in 1893, married Yete Judelman, daughter of Hirsh and Elte (nee Goldin) of Skuodas in 1927. Yankel was a merchant and a widower; he had been born in Kupiskis. In 1931, Jankel married Ida Yudit Rozaitski, daughter of Bencel and Risa of Raseiniai.
Jewish Gen’s Lithuania Deaths database records that Ete Melamed, daughter of Hirsh and Ele (nee Goldin) Yudelman, died in 1931, age 36, of pleurisy.
A. Straksys, in his article “No One is Forgotten” describes the massacre at Alka Hill in which the women and children of Shkud were killed: “In total, there were 510 people tortured, shot, and killed on Alka Hill … Two hundred and eighty-nine people were buried alive …. M. Taicaite, the Kaplan sisters, E. Melamedaite, the two Segel sisters, Mrs. Fugelman with her two daughters, Mrs. Brekmaniene, the Mendelson family, and many others, well known by the older generation of Skuodas, lay in this terrible grave, shot or buried alive” (Musu Zodis Nov 17, 1966).
