Leib Zelikovich was the son of Sarah (nee Eliashev) and Nata Yosef Zelikovich. Jewish Gen’s Lithuania Deaths database tells us that Yosel Zelikovich, son of Leib and Khana, drowned, age 45, in 1926.  After Nata Yosef’s death, his widow Sarah, according to Jewish Gen’s Lithuania Marriages database, married Abram Icik Malkindzon in Skuodas in 1930.

Leib’s father had been a farmer. According to Kehilat Shkud, “about five farmers cultivated their own lands in Shkud, produced enough for private consumption and sold the surplus to the shtetl dwellers. Owners of large plots were: Neta Zelikovitz z”l, Bere Kaganzon and Joseph Mirkis – in the old town, and the brothers Mendel and Nachum Chatzkels, Hirsch Cohen and David Shafkind – in the New Town” (14). In 1933, an urban kibbutz (Ha’Kibbutz Ha’Ironi) was established near Zelikovich’s  farm (54; see also 23).

Kehilat Shkud tells us that starting in the evening of June 29, 1941, a nightlong massacre of Jewish men took place in Zelikovich’s fields, which had recently been purchased by Yitzak Malkinson (47). Shaf-Brener relates the eyewitness account of Berl Yelovich, who recalled that during the massacre,  “Leib Zelikovich, the brother of Esther, resisted, and this was described at the funeral of the bones [in June 1963]” (9).
